X-Plane

Business problem:
Education

Serious games used:
X-Plane

X-Plane is a good example of a computer simulation created as a training tool. Players can fly simulated versions of over 1,400 types of prop-driven and jet aircraft, as well as helicopters, through realistic environments. New pilots use X-Plane to learn the basics. Experienced pilots can use it to sharpen their skills in flying planes they already know, and to try out new types of aircraft.

This type of computerized training has a long lineage, both in the military and the private sector. On occasion, these “serious” simulations have turned into commercial video games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and Full Spectrum Warrior.
